Our Story
The idea for Spliced Electric wasn't born in a boardroom. It was born at 4,000m — somewhere on a hiking trail in Nepal, with sore legs, burning lungs, and a lot of time to think about what comes next.
Derek and Amie had been together a few years by then. They'd already done the hard work of building a full year renovating their mobile home with their own hands, planning a wedding, and backpacking through the Himalayas. They knew how to work together, how to solve problems. Derek had spent over a decade building a reputation as a reliable, skilled electrician in Victoria.
"We wanted to build something that was ours — something rooted in this community, and run the way we'd want to be treated as clients."
And somewhere between Nepal and home, Spliced Electric was born — two people with deep trades experience, a shared set of values, and a genuine love for the community they live and play in.
The Name
It's not just a name — it's a nod to where they both came from. In both electrical work and marine operations, a splice is one of the most important connections you can make. Done right, it will last the test of time.
It takes skill, precision, and care. Which is exactly what Derek and Amie bring to every job — and to each other.
⚡ In Electrical
The Wire Splice
A properly made splice is one of the strongest, most important connections in an electrical system. It's where skill meets precision, technique & safety, and one Derek does on the daily.
🪢 In Marine
The Rope Splice
In the marine world, a splice joins two lines into one, or turns a bitter end into a strong loop. It is stronger at the join than anywhere else. In Amie's marine world, this is the skill where most deckhands prove their worth.
The Team
RED SEAL MASTER ELECTRICIAN • CO-FOUNDER
Master Electrician. Field Safety Representative. Born and raised in Victoria — and still surrounded by many of the same people he grew up with, which tells you everything you need to know about how he shows up for people. He's spent over a decade doing electrical work the right way: safely, carefully, and with real pride in the craft. His work is methodical, clean, and done to the standard he'd put in his own home.
What you get in Derek is someone who shows up when he says he will, explains things clearly, and more importantly, brings the experience and skill that means you can trust his work completely.
BUSINESS OPERATIONS • CO-FOUNDER
Amie moved to the West Coast from Ontario over a decade ago on a whim. With 15+ years in program management, emergency management, and marine operations, she has built a career around managing complex projects, organizing people, communicating clearly, and making sure everything runs smoothly from start finish. She is a hands-on worker, and is no stranger to tools or a job-site.
What you get with Amie is someone who is prompt with their communication, makes sure you get the information you need, and leaves a job site cleaner than she found it.
